Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Permitting

Q: Do I need a Permit in the unincorporated area of Guadalupe County?
A: YES. A property owner or owner’s authorized agent who intends to conduct an operation or business, build a commercial structure, or install or modify systems and equipment that are regulated by this code, or to cause any such work to be performed, shall first make application to the fire code official and obtain the required permit

Q: How do I get a permit?
A: The first step in getting a permit is to contact our office to determine if you will need to attend a Pre-development Meeting. This is determined by several factors such as: Will a new structure be built?, Are you moving into a pre-existing location and has it been permitted?, Does the location have a fire hydrant with sufficient water flow and pressure available?, and many other factors.  It is very important to contact us to identify any potentially expensive requirements that may be required in order to meet Fire Code.

Q: Can I start construction or move into my building while the permit is being reviewed?
A: No. The building or structure shall not be occupied prior to the fire code official issuing a permit and conducting associated inspections indicating the applicable provisions of the adopted fire code have been met.
