Vacation

Regular full-time employees who work 72 hours or more per pay period, will begin accruing time based upon the table below. In addition, part-time employees that work 36 hours or more per pay period will earn .7692 hours. Employees can request to use their earned vacation leave after a 60 day waiting period. Paid vacation leave may be used in quarter hour increments.

Regular, full-time employees earn vacation leave as follows (Approved by Commissioners Court on February 7, 2023):

5 years 1 month through 10th year
10 years 1 month through 15th year
15 years 1 month through 20th year
20 years 1 month forward

Vacation Leave Earned

3.0769 hours every pay period
3.8462 hours every pay period
4.6154 hours every pay period
6.1538 hours every pay period
7.6923 hours every pay period

Sick leave

Sick leave is available for full-time and part-time employees after 60 day waiting period. Unused sick leave accumulates and is available in succeeding years, up to a maximum of 480 hours for Full-time and 240 hours for part-time employees.

Insurance

Group medical premiums for full time employees are paid in full after a sixty (60) day waiting period with an effective date on the 1st of the following month. A dental and vision plan is also available.

Texas County & District Retirement System (TCDRS)

Member Participation
All elected officials and employees are required to become a member of the system. It is mandatory that employees contribute 7% of their gross salary each pay period. The County matches credits in a 2:1 ratio at time of retirement.

Service Retirement
A member is eligible for lifetime monthly service retirement benefit payments if they:
  • Accumulated at least 8 years of credited service and attained age of at least 60; or,
  • Attained an age and total credited service which equals 75 or more; or,
  • Accumulated at least 20 years of credited service
Vesting
Employees earn vested rights upon the completion of eight (8) years of creditable service. Vesting is the right to retire and to receive lifetime monthly pension payments contingent upon satisfaction of the age requirement for retirement.

Employee Open Enrollment: Sept. 18th through Sept. 26th

It’s time to prepare for Guadalupe County’s 2026 Open Enrollment, taking place September 18 through September 26. This is a mandatory enrollment, whether you are electing new benefits, keeping your current selections, or waiving coverage.

 

Key Details:

  • Enrollment Deadline: September 26, 2025
  • Effective Date of Benefits: January 1, 2026
  • Documentation Deadline: October 10, 2025
  • Required for adding dependents (e.g., marriage/birth certificates, court documents)

How to Enroll

OPTION 1 - Call Center Appointments with a Benefit Counselor:

  • 30 minutes or less appointment
  • Daily appointments from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • You’ll receive a call at your scheduled time from the Benefit Counselor
  • Be sure your phone can accept unknown numbers
  • Spouses are welcome to join the call

OPTION 2 - In-Person Assistance: No appointment needed. First come, first serve.

  • Sept 19: Juvenile Services (8:00am–4:00pm)
  • Sept 22: Sheriff’s Office (7:00am–4:00pm)
  • Sept 23: Juvenile Services (8:00am–12:00pm), Justice Center (1:30–5:00pm)
  • Sept 24: Road & Bridge Lube Center (7:00am–4:00pm)
  • Sept 25: Riedel Bldg. (9:00am–12:00pm), Sheriff’s Office (4:00pm–8:00pm).  (PLEASE NOTE IF YOU PICKED UP FLYERS FROM YOUR MAILBOX IN THE JUSTICE CENTER THE LOCATION AT SCHERTZ HAS CHANGED UPDATED FLYER ATTACHED)

Before You Enroll
Have the following ready:

  • Social Security numbers and birthdates for dependents
  • Birthdates and phone numbers for beneficiaries
